Text: In one of the most remote places in Brazil, where rivers are the roads and the forest holds an unmatched cultural richness, there is also a great need: access to the gospel.
In the region known as “Dog’s Head”, in the far northwest of the Amazon, indigenous and riverside communities live surrounded by geographical, cultural, and spiritual challenges. Many of them still have little or no access to consistent biblical teaching and christian leadership training.
With that in mind, the Amazon Ministry was created to fulfil the task among them – a project that carries a clear mission in its heart – bringing the hope of Christ to places where it has not yet fully reached.
A Mission Born in God’s Heart
We believe the gospel knows no barriers. It crosses rivers, overcomes distances, and reaches hearts even in the most isolated places. The love of Christ is enough to transform lives, restore families, and raise up leaders. Beyond that, it is expressed within each culture, respecting and redeeming its story. God is already at work in the Amazon, and being part of this movement is both a privilege and a calling.
A Field Ready, Yet Challenging
Our ministry takes place in the Upper Black River region, in the village São Gabriel da Cachoeira, near the borders with Colombia and Venezuela.
There, you will find:
• Around 23 ethnic groups
• Across more than 100 villages
• A great diversity of languages and customs
Despite this cultural richness, many communities still face:
• Lack of consistent biblical discipleship
• Shortage of trained christian leaders
• Limited access to the message of the gospel
In addition, missionary work faces real hardship:
• Long distances and difficult access
• High travel costs (mainly by river and air)
• Institutional restrictions that require awareness and wisdom
• The need for cultural contextualization of biblical teaching
Evangelizing in this context is not just about going – it is about staying, learning, loving, and walking alongside its peoples.
Raising Leaders, Planting Churches
The project’s strategy is clear and deeply biblical: investing in people.
Throughout the year, missionary trainings are held with a focus on:
• Indigenous leadership development
• Biblical discipleship
• Training church planters
During these gatherings, participants are equipped to:
• Lead small groups within their communities
• Teach the Word in a contextualized way
• Plant churches in their own tribes and villages
This approach strengthens the core of our ministry: the gospel being lived and multiplied within the local culture itself.
The expansion of the gospel in the Amazon cannot be an individual mission – it is a collective calling. Everyone can take part: by praying for the ethnic peoples and the missionaries, by financially supporting it, or by sharing about this project. When the Church moves together, the Kingdom advances.
The Gospel Continues to Advance
Even in the face of many challenges, one truth remains: God has not forgotten the Amazon. He continues to raise people, open doors and touch hearts. And perhaps, in some way, He is also calling you to be part of this story.
For the hope of the gospel continues to cross rivers… transforming lives.
