There is Hope in the Caucasus

Author: Lucas

My name is Lucas and, since the first time I heard about Azerbaijan, something in my heart began to burn. Somehow, I was sure that region, surrounded by mountains and seas, would become part of my life.

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit the country for the first time and one of the most memorable experiences happened during a simple meal.

I was invited to dine at the home of a Muslim man. The invitation came from his son – a young Christian who, 15 years earlier, had been threatened with a knife and expelled from home by his own father just because he decided to follow Jesus. I was aware of his tremendous testimony, but I must confess that, as I walked toward the house, my heart was nervously pounding. What would this gathering be like?

However, to my surprise, the dinner flowed pleasantly. The father knew I was a Christian, even so, he welcomed me with respect. We sat at the table, shared the bread, ate rice, meat… and talked. We spoke about Azerbaijan, about Brazil, about our cultures… about faith. There were questions, curiosities and there was peace, above all.

As I listened to that man, I thought about how time and the love of Christ turn the impossible into hope. Fifteen years earlier, that same home had been a place of rejection and pain. Today, it is where Christians and Muslims can sit together, share a meal and talk with serenity.

I left their home in silence, but my heart was overflowing.

Something is happening in Azerbaijan. Jesus is moving, even when it seems like everything is still. He is healing relationships, opening doors, and showing that the Gospel is powerful enough to cross any border – even the ones in the human heart.

Families Continue to Surrender to the Savior in the Mountains

Despite many obstacles (both geographical and spiritual) South Asia remains a fertile field for the Good News. In villages nestled within the highest mountain ranges on Earth, courageous messengers tirelessly bring the light of Christ to people who have never been reached.

Mission today: less temple, more table

Europe, once a sender of missionaries to the world, has now become a mission field. In this context, God is raising the Latin American church – not as a protagonist, but as a servant – to live out a mission marked by presence, relationship, and discipleship. As we are called to reflect and to act: mission continues, and God is still sending.

The Latin American church and the cross-cultural call to post-christian Europe

In the story the Lord is writing, He desires to use His Church in a powerful reversal of mission, bringing the Gospel back to where it once flourished. This article invites, through the lens of Scripture, a reflection on the connection between the Latin American church and today’s European context, as well as the strategic role of cross-cultural missions.
